ORTHODONTICS

Dr Rangan qualified as a dentist from The University of the Western Cape. Her community service was rendered at R.K. Khan Hospital in Kwa-Zulu Natal (KZN). She subsequently managed their dental department for 2 years before transferring to Northdale Hospital in Pietermaritzburg. Here, she continued to work for the Kwa-Zulu Natal department of health for a further 12 years.

During this time, Dr Rangan was also a volunteer at the Wentworth foundation in Durban for the treatment of Cleft lip and palate patients as well as indigent patients requiring simple orthodontic intervention. Dr Rangan subsequently facilitated the opening of a branch of the Wentworth Foundation NGO at Northdale Hospital, in order to render an orthodontic service to the indigent community members of Pietermaritzburg. This sparked her special interest in the treatment of Cleft lip and palate patients.

Whilst working for the KZN department of health, Dr Rangan commenced a Diploma in Orthodontics from 2010 to 2011 where she graduated Cum Laude.

She subsequently completed a 2-year course with the Progressive orthodontic society in 2015.

Dr Rangan was awarded the opportunity to specialize at the University of Witwatersrand between 2016 and 2020. She qualified as the first Indian female orthodontist at the University of Witwatersrand.

She is now the only full time as well as only female Orthodontist in   Pietermaritzburg.

Her passion for orthodontics, together with her drive for community service and upliftment will positively address and enhance the obvious deficiency of orthodontic services offered in and around Pietermaritzburg.
